Data Submission Guide

All users of this database are invited and encouraged to submit additional information for inclusion in the system. Information can be submitted either for a hazardous substance not currently included in the system or for a previously reviewed substance. All submitted information will be evaluated by a designated reviewer familiar with the substance. Approved information will be published on this website. All contributers will be clearly credited for their work.

The data sumission process includes four steps:

  1. Select a category of hazardous substance (infectious organism, chemical substance, or toxin) to edit.
  2. Enter new information regarding the hazardous substance. A form of 17-20 potential input fields will be displayed. Information can be entered in all or only some of these fields.
  3. Enter the full citation for each reference used in support of the submitted information. All information must be referenced. Possible reference sources include journals, books, and websites. For your convenience, all references listed in PubMed can be easily inserted simply by entering its unique PUBMED ID number, and an internal program can automatically retrieve the detailed reference information. Results of pilot studies or other projects not published are acceptable but must be clearly identified as a “personal observation.”
  4. Link a specific reference to the corresponding text. Our intelligent reference tag function allows you to link one or more reference tags anywhere within the submitted text.

Contributers including internal and external curators must have a HazARD account and be logged in to the system in order to submit information on a new substance or to request an update request form to modify existing information. Potential contributors can request a HazARD account through the registration page. Once registered, contributors can log into the system by entering their email and password below. Requests for new passwords or to reset an existing password can be submitted here.

Individuals with expertise with a specific substance within the database are also encouraged to serve as reviewers of submitted information. Reviewers will be fully credited for their work. If you wish to serve as a data reviewer, please contact us.
