Molecule Role Annotation To investigate the effect of the loss of DJ-1 in insect stage development, mosquitoes were fed on wild-type- or plasmoDJ1 knockout-parasite-infected BALB/c mice, and infectivity was determined by counting the number of oocysts in the mosquito mid-guts. The knockout parasites showed almost 50% reduction in both infectivity to mosquitoes and the number of oocysts. The results suggested that plasmoDJ1 plays a major role for in parasite development and virulence (Singhal et al., 2014).
