Defects in virulence in dam mutants include such as impaired expression and secretion of invasion proteins, reduced cytotoxicity on M cells , inefficient colonization of Peyer’s patches and mesenteric lymph nodes, sensitivity to components of innate immunity, envelope instability and changes in LPS expression (Giacomodonato et al., 2009).
